Support

We know that setting up a sound system can sometimes feel complicated, especially if you are in a rush to get the party started. We want your event to sound perfect, so we provide full access to technical documentation for our rental fleet and have outlined some common issues and their solutions below.

Setup & Connections

You have two options with our Harbinger speakers:

  1. Bluetooth: Most of our rental speakers are Bluetooth-ready. Press the Bluetooth button (“On/Pair”) on the back of the speaker to enter “Pairing Mode,” then select the speaker in your phone’s settings.
  2. Wired Connection (Recommended): For critical moments (like a wedding march), we always recommend a wired connection. You can rent an Aux Cable (3.5mm to XLR) to plug your device directly into the input channel.

If you only have one microphone and one music source (like a phone), you can plug them directly into the back of our powered speakers—no mixer required! However, if you have a full band, multiple microphones, or need to adjust volume levels from across the room, we recommend renting one of our 8-channel unpowered mixers.

To get the same sound out of two speakers, you need to “daisy chain” them.

  1. Set the volume on Speaker B to match Speaker A.
  2. Plug your music/mic into Speaker A.
  3. Take an XLR cable and plug it into the “Mix Out” on the back of Speaker A.
  4. Plug the other end into the “Input” on Speaker B.

  1. Plug the receiver into a power outlet and connect it to your speaker/mixer using an XLR or 1/4″ cable.
  2. Turn on the receiver.
  3. Put fresh batteries in the handheld microphone and turn it on.
  4. Important: Ensure the channel number on the microphone matches the channel number on the receiver. If they don’t match, you won’t hear anything!

Troubleshooting

  1. Check the Signal Flow: Is the output of your mixer plugged into the input of the speaker?
  2. Check the Gains: Ensure the “Master Volume” is up, but also check the individual channel volume (often labeled “Gain” or “Level”) on the back of the speaker.
  3. Check the Mute: Many mixers have “Mute” buttons on individual channels. Make sure your channel is un-muted.

This usually happens when the “Mic/Line” switch is in the wrong position.

  • If using a Microphone: Set the switch to “Mic.”
  • If using a Phone, Laptop, or Mixer: Set the switch to “Line.”
  • If you plug a phone in while the switch is set to “Mic,” the signal will be too hot and will distort.

Feedback happens when the microphone “hears” itself coming out of the speaker.

  1. Move the mic: Don’t stand directly in front of the speaker. Keep the microphone behind the main speakers.
  2. Turn it down: Lower the volume slightly.
  3. Cut the Highs: Turn down the “Treble” or “High” EQ knob on the mixer or speaker.

  1. Line of Sight: Keep the receiver high up and visible. Do not hide it inside a metal cabinet or behind a stone wall. The microphone needs to “see” the receiver antennas.
  2. Batteries: When in doubt, swap them out! Low batteries cause signal drops long before the mic actually dies.

Still Stuck? If you are running into technical difficulties during business hours, give us a call at (540) 659-6687 and our staff can walk you through the signal flow.
